Letter from Marathon Jam President

On behalf of the board of directors, I want to thank you for being a loyal contributor and supporter of Marathon Jam. Over the last few years, charitable organizations have felt the strain of the global pandemic and financial stressors. Despite these setbacks, Marathon Jam has weathered the storm and now sets out with new goals on the horizon for a better organization. Our focus will put even more emphasis on our core purpose … healing through music.

Our board has undergone significant restructuring and despite a fairly short planning window, we were able to successfully return to American Legion Post 6 in Chapel Hill for the 12 Hour Jam and raised a total of $13,200. This was on the heels of raising $21,644 during smaller and virtual jams during the pandemic years 2022-23. These funds will be used for funding programs that support Veterans, 1st Responders and their families.

As we look to the remainder of 2024 and on toward 2025, there are plans in the works for a mini jam in the Wilkesboro region along with our continued outreach at the Kernersville and Salisbury VA hospitals and reestablishing a presence at the Durham VA and Fayetteville VA.

Our board is a strong, energetic and aligned team and the future looks bright. We hope that all of our contributors, donors, musicians and quilters will continue to be engaged as we attempt to grow our organization over the next few years. Although sometimes it seems events in the world may not always be cheery, the music lives on and touches the soul of the human spirit to give us glimmers of hope and fills hearts with music to help sustain and heal us.

Respectfully,

Charles Fields, MD
